"Take a bow, Mama Rose! This is a classic GYPSY!"
Blackhurst's wide pipes, which belt out those Jule Styne tunes and perfect Stephen Sondheim lyrics with enough force, mastery and sheer force of will to blow half the traffic on the Eisenhower Expressway back to the city from which it ventured. Gimmicks are one thing; this kind of technique is anoth...

"This knockout take on a classic serves as the latest proof that some sort of divine fire is at work in Oakbrook!"
Take a look at the remarkable revival of “Gypsy” now at the Drury Lane Oakbrook Theatre — a production that explodes with powerhouse singing, meticulously tooled storytelling, and a richness of heart, hurt and humor — and you will need little convincing that Broadway has relocated to west suburban I...

"Go now and relish all the amazing talent on display at Drury Lane."
Drury Lane definitely does honor to “Gypsy,” which has only grown in critical stature through the years as one of the quintessential musicals of Broadway's golden age. It may be some time before you see another “Gypsy” produced on such a lavish scale and with so much dramatic insight on a mother who...

"This production at the Drury Lane Theater in Oak Brook Terrace will delight you!"
There were moments in her performance that were absolutely perfect. She took over, without taking O-V-E-R. I think the audience was eagerly waiting for the finale of “Rose’s Turn”. You could feel the audience with Ms. Blackhurst’s every move and belting note. As corny as it sounds, there was electri...

"The night belongs to Klea Blackhurst, who nails her daunting, exhausting role."
The revival of “Gypsy” at the Drury Lane Theatre stars Klea Blackhurst as the indomitable and domineering Rose in a performance that holds up solidly in the Merman tradition. Blackhurst is the chief ornament in the production, but she’s complemented by a fine supporting cast, quality production valu...

"Drury Lane has truly become Chicago’s answer to Broadway"
Curtain up! Light the lights! Director Bill Osetek has worked magic with another American musical classic. Revered as more than simply a song-filled biography of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, Arthur Laurents/Jule Styne/Stephen Sondheim’s musical is also a page out of theatre history, from Vaudeville to B...

"Entertainment at its greatest!"
Watching the new Drury Lane Theatre production of the six-time Tony Award-winning musical "Gypsy," playing through April 1, it's even more emotionally complex and fascinating. Add to this headliner Klea Blackhurst (and her unbelievable voice) starring as Mama Rose, surrounded by a talented cast agai...

"Everything is, indeed, coming up roses for the Drury Lane Oak Brook production of “Gypsy”"
The all-American story of a mother in relentless search of the American Dream and the daughter she pushes into the strip-tease business has a tragic-comic clarity in director William Osetek’s staging. It also has a tour-de-force performance from Blackhurst, who inhabits the role of the ultimate stag...

"If you have never seen this show, this would be a great place to start!"
“Gypsy” is a true theatrical experience for those who love Musical Comedy and while it is over 2 1/2 hours long ( with intermission) one never feels that they need to look at their watch- it flows from scene to scene with ease. If you have never seen this show, this would be a great place to start- ...

"Dynamite!"
Some people say Gypsy is the greatest Broadway musical ever written. And “some people” are probably right. It’s not just a stirring story of an ugly duckling turning into a swan or a stage mother from hell morphing into a humble fan (and admitting that for years she was living vicariously through he...

"Blackhurst’s leather voice allowed her to lands the “Some People” with fanatical determination"
The ambitious, driven ultimate stage mother, Mama Rose is one of the great characters in all of American Broadway musicals. Any production of Gypsy depends on who plays Mama Rose. New Yorker Klea Blackhur’s booming voice channeled Ethel Merman takes over as the determined stage mother. Her voice gra...

"Osetek's casting is flawless!"
This spirited revival of the classic 1959 musical offers a deft balance of the familiar and the new. In retelling the story of burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee and her domineering stage mother, Mama Rose, director William Osetek takes care not to offend traditionalists. There's nothing radical here. Bu...
